I was listening to an interview on NPR’s 1A with Roger Bennett and his experience becoming a citizen, and he quoted Langston Hughes, specifically:
O, let America be America again—
The land that never has been yet—
And yet must be

As we approach the Independence Day July 4th Holiday in the United States, I think about working with the collective consciousness of the national soul. Don’t get me wrong, working with individuals and groups is necessary in flesh and blood, but there is a pattern to the nation, and everyone born here, everyone who lives here, and everyone who chooses to be a citizen in particular, undergoing their own national initiation process, is affected by the national soul, and contributes to its health or illness. The National Soul is entwined with the Spirit and Spirits of the Land of the North American continent and all the indigenous people who have ever resided upon it, known and unknown. The iconography and geometry of the capitol and monuments moves thought and energy and using July 4th, 1776 as a birthday, the natal chart of the United States shows the Neptune opposition in the Pisces-Virgo axis and Pluto return in Capricorn in 2022 before moving into Aquarius in 2023. Both are momentous transits of learning and change.
If you would like to work for the healing and greatest good of the National Soul, choose an icon that will help you personally connect. Any symbol, image or scene from the United States history can do, but particular images of Lady LIberty, Columbia, Uncle Sam, architecture from the capitol, the flag, the eagle, liberty bell or a map of the nation will do. I think having a simple poem or prayer or invocation written beforehand, such as Langston Hughes’ poem, in whole or part, can be helpful to keep focus.
Light a candle.
Make a simple offering of clear cool water to the Soul of the Nation.
Enter into meditation and sink into the deep Earth.
Ask to reach the level of the national soul.It can feel like a wave at first, opening to an ocean of energy. These days it can be tumultuous, like a stormy sea. Enter in peace and feel your connection all around you. If you have words prepared and memorized, speak them, or speak from your heart, but speak clearly in the vision and ideals you whole for the soul of the nation. I might suggest simply:
“O, let America be America again—
The land that never has been yet—
And yet must be.”Listen with your heart and mind.”
What does the National Soul say to you?
What is its feeling, collectively?
Sometimes in simply listening and talking, there is magick.
What is needed?
What can you offer?
Are any of the healing techniques you have in your magickal bag appropriate?
You can send Reiki, offer light, call upon angelic blessing or draw upon animal medicine.
What is needed that you can offer, realizing any healing you offer to the Soul of the Nation, you are offering to yourself, and most likely will reflect what you need as part of the nation.
When done, thank the National Soul and all in it.
Bless the National Soul for the greater good.
Then gently rise back up from the layers and return to your sense of body, place and time.
Feel a renewed sense of connection, and commitment to the nation, and with a healthy and balanced nation, a renewed connection to the planet and all on, in, and around it.
Feel free to adapt this to your own nation wherever you may live, in whatever capacity and symbols that are appropriate for that work.
